Iron Horse Logistics Services FAQs

How do I get a rate to ship by rail?
Iron Horse Logstics Services customers simply need to log into the RateMaster application and search for the applicable rates. All the detailed information will be returned. If no rate exists the user can request a Quote from Iron Horse. Most if not all rail carriers now have rates available to the public on their web sites. In some cases you need no special login to retrieve it but often you need to register to gain access. It is imperative that when searching for any rates you are aware of all the various details and conditions such as the STCC, route and switching details as the rate that displays might not actually apply to your specific move. Selecting and applying an incorrect rate can result in costly additional charges. Using the RateMaster is the safest and most efficient means to obtain rate information by rail or barge.

Do railroads offer lower rate for shipping private railcars?
Generally speaking railroads will discount shipping private cars. The discount depends on various factors but is greatest when car supply is in higher demand and carriers are unable to meet demand satisfactorily. Some carriers are reluctant and very selective; others are much more aggressive in providing such discounts. Many factors must be considered.

Did WT&L Corp change its name to Iron Horse or something?
No. This has been a question asked by many. WT&L Corp still exists but is now focused on the lease and sale of rail equipment and railcar parts for interchange, in plant and for dismantling. Iron Horse Logistics Services is a separate company that now provides all consulting services. Two companies, all the same services and products, just a new focus for each.
